Part of the Wellington Fire Area, it has a current career establishment of 37 staff working over four watches, and a volunteer unit of 16 members. The station is responsible for breathing apparatus, chemical splash suits, hose and equipment for the Wellington Area.
Three Type 3 appliances and one 4WD vehicle are stationed there. While the primary response area is Porirua City, they can be responded to anywhere in the district, and have gone as far as Otaki.
Opened in 1962, and expanded over the years. The current location of Porirua Fire Station is Mungavin Avenue.
The Station Number is 31, with appliances numbered 311, 317, 312 and 3110.
